The Art of Transformation through Travel

May 26, 2019

Traveling opens up doors for us to adapt to new experiences, new perspectives, and new situations. By keeping an open mind for the path to reveal itself with no judgement, travel becomes a graceful practice of observation. We can gracefully interact with new traditions rather than judging unfamiliar ones. Travel gives us the opportunities to reflect and adjust our own life if we choose.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Aside from its signature high-rises, Hong Kong's culture is diverse due to its influences by both the Western and Chinese cultures. Before 1997, Hong Kong was a British colony and British rule has shaped the city in many ways.

Heritage story telling

This is the central police station in Hong Kong. This site is a revitalization project with a mission to repair and conserve these buildings from 1841. New life and upgrades were injected to some of these buildings to allow new enterprises to flourish in this area. As part of the revitalization, a series of heritage storytelling programmes are implemented to educate visitors on how the compound is an integral part of Hong King’s cultural life. This encourages a self-exploration and is a great way to learn about the history and stories that are deep rooted in this police station.

The historic site of the Tai O finishing village is filled with so much beauty. The charming village had people settling here for centuries due to the prosperous fishing and salt industries on this island. The deep rooted heritage is preserved by the local community, with fishermen and families still living on their boats or in stilted houses on the shores while working hard to keep the traditional industries alive including shrimp paste and salted fish making. I highly recommend staying overnight and treat yourself to a night stay at the Tai O Heritage hotel and ask for a hotel tour. It truly is a treat to get soak in with its rich culture.
